Cost and Insurance

Coverage for compounded medications varies by insurance provider. We highly recommend contacting your insurance company prior to having the prescription filled. We can provide a receipt for you to submit for potential reimbursement by your insurer.

The cost depends on the type of medication, the ingredients used, and the complexity of the compounding process. We are transparent about our pricing and will give you a cost estimate before compounding your prescription.

General Information

Boothwyn Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy operating under the provisions of Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). We are committed to complying with all federal and state regulations applicable to a 503A compounding pharmacy and governing the preparation and dispensing of compounded medications.

Compounding pharmacies are primarily regulated by state boards of pharmacy and must also comply with Section 503A and other relevant sections of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) and related regulations.

Boothwyn Pharmacy is a properly operating 503A Pharmacy and has been subject to inspection by the FDA (although, the FDA does not endorse or accredit facilities).

Our operations are regularly inspected by multiple state authorities to ensure compliance with state-specific compounding laws and regulations.

We can compound a variety of medications in various forms, including but not limited to oral medications such as capsules, topical creams, ophthalmic solutions, and injectables. Each medication is dispensed via a valid prescription and customized to the patient's specific needs.

Handling and Storage

Storage instructions will be provided on the medication label. It's essential to follow these instructions carefully to maintain the medication’s potency and safety.

The shelf life depends on the medication and its formulation. Instructions for appropriate storage and the expiration date will be indicated on the label and should be followed carefully.

Legal and Compliance

We are only permitted to compound medications when a commercially available product is not suitable for a patient, such as when a patient needs a different dosage, form, or has allergies to ingredients in the commercially available product.

Additionally, we are permitted to compound commercially available products when they are listed in shortage by the FDA.

In the rare event of a recall, we will promptly notify you and your healthcare provider of the recall, the reasons for the recall, and to determine the appropriate course of action for your safety.

Prescription and Ordering

Some GLP-1 formulations include methylcobalamin, which is a naturally occurring form of vitamin B12. This natural form of B12 is inherently red in color, which is why the solution appears red. We prefer using the naturally occurring form over synthetic versions for its established role and compatibility in the formulation. This coloration is completely expected and does not affect the medication’s quality.
